Special Education Placement
Students who qualify for Special Education services have an Individual Education Plan (IEP). The IEP indicates the intensity of services a student receives. In MPS, the instructional needs of students whose IEPs indicate a "Federal Setting" of 1 or 2, also called "Resource services", can be met in any school.
When a student who receives Resource supports enrolls in the Minneapolis Public Schools, the Student Placement Services team is able to provide school options, based on home address and school capacity.
Students who receive more highly specialized instruction have IEPs with a federal setting of 3 or 4. When a student enrolls in Minneapolis Public Schools with a Federal Setting 3 or 4 IEP, the Student Placement Services team will partner with the Special Education Placement team to make a school placement that has services and programming available, as indicated in their IEP.
